SEASONAL EU WORKERS INFORMATION

Now the transition period has ended, there will be three main routes for seasonal EU workers to work in Scotland:

 

•            Settled and pre-settled status.

Some workers have successfully applied to the EU Settlement Scheme. EU citizens resident in the UK before 31 December 2020 have until 30 June to apply to the scheme.

 

•            Seasonal workers scheme.

The UK Govt has extended the Seasonal Agricultural Workers pilot to cover the 2021 period, allowing up to 30,000 visas to be issued.

 

•            Frontier worker permit scheme.  

A frontier worker is an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen who lives primarily outside the UK and has worked in the UK before 31 December 2020. The frontier worker must have kept working in the UK once a year since they started working here. People can apply for frontier worker status online. Like the EU Settlement Scheme, there is a grace period until 30 June 2021. The Home Office have confirmed, ‘If you were a frontier worker on or before 31 December 2020, you can use your passport or national identity card to travel to the UK and work until 30 June 2021.’  Further details can be found on the UK Government website https://www.gov.uk/frontier-worker-permit
